You could call it a late riser option. Or the alternative for stressed shopping Saturdays. Because everything is so wonderfully together here:

the glittering Dietlhofer See, gentle and perfectly developed paths with a mountain panorama, restaurant on the lake, farm shop and refreshments on the way, the (old) town of Weilheim for shopping or strolling around the corner. And all of this is also easily accessible. In summer the water rats cavort and in winter the ice skaters romp around on Lake Dietlhofer.

Walkers are attracted all year round: the sunny meadows can be crossed with dry feet with a pram or by bike. Especially when the sun is lower, a glistening silver water surface relaxes. Behind it, the Alpine chain rises in the distance and reminds us that the Ice Age ruled here too and that the current recreational area is a remnant of a dead ice. You cannot go all the way around the lake directly, the east side is left to the reeds and nature.

The hiking trail continues a little curve and goes through the middle of the eponymous hamlet Dietlhof: Pure idyll reigns supreme on the Bioland-Gut, which houses a small farm shop with a café and the outdoor area is adorned with artistic, weird birds. From here you can take a leisurely stroll across meadows with great views back to the northern edge of Weilheim.

The land of villas and homes ("Weilheimer Land") was firmly in Roman hands with the "Via Raetia" to Augsburg until the Bavarians at the end of the 5th century. came. In 1010 "Wilhain" is mentioned in a document. The village was conveniently located in terms of transport, especially the Ammer as a transport river played an important role in the growth of the place into a market town. In 1236 a palisade fence surrounded the houses, later a medieval city wall. Unfortunately the gates were demolished in the 19th century, but the city wall and moat, now a park, are still partially preserved. Milestones in the development of Weilheim in the 17th century were the lively arts and crafts with the Weilheim sculpture school. During this time the Mannerist parish church (1624 - 28), equipped with the famous stucco of the Wessobrunn school, was built on Marienplatz.

There in the center there is the weekly market every Friday and the Weilheim Christmas market at the end of the first week of December. Here you rely on handicrafts instead of department store kitsch, look for the missing nativity scene figures, admire the woodturning and glass art and quickly buy a handcraft made of felt or the silver jewelry for a gift.

Santa Claus comes for the little ones, while the parents chatter over chestnuts and mulled wine. For everyone there is a living nativity scene outside and a magnificent nativity scene in the church. Plus various concerts and events. The Weilheim City Museum in the Old Town Hall on Marienplatz still holds its doors for the tireless. The building is the city chronicle and cabinet of curiosities as well as a refuge for the current temporary exhibition: in addition to prehistory and early history, you can admire furniture and handicrafts from the past 600 years and religious items from the 15th century. But be careful: if you really want to "take everything with you" on your trip to Weilheim, you shouldn't get up too late ...
