A turn of the year without a party, without fireworks and without socializing: What many previously seemed unimaginable, will become a sad reality this year.

The local newspaper spoke to four people whose New Year's Eve will be very different this year than they are used to.

Dachau

- For Horst Ullmann, today's 77th birthday will definitely be special.

Not because it's a schnapps number, but because his - yes, one can almost say legendary - birthday drink at the TC Dachau has to be canceled this year.

An average of 60 to 65 well-wishers always came to toast the new year with the jubilee and the new year with everyone else.

It was always “really hearty”, says Ullmann, the music played, people laughed and drank - often so much that the celebrated child didn't make it home by 4pm on the dot, where the family celebration would follow.

Maybe he will make up for his birthday party at the folk festival.

In any case, there will be no big celebrations today, as the 9pm curfew is simply “an impossible time” for the city council!

For Tizian Sacher from Dachau, New Year's Eve is also different this year than usual.

“Otherwise I always enjoyed going out to party,” says the 26-year-old.

The former treasurer of the "Freiraum" usually has a pronounced party life.

He is not only a party-goer, but has also hosted numerous parties in Dachau and Karlsfeld.

His last big project was the "Open Ear" at Karlsfelder See, but Sacher also works as a DJ in his spare time.

"I played a lot in the 'Freiraum' and Massmann dormitories," reports Sacher.

There he celebrated the New Year in recent years.

For him, the “cool thing” about New Year's Eve was always “that you met people who you don't see so often”.

He would miss that this year.

Instead of a big party with lots of people, this time there is a small game evening with the girlfriend and brother.

Sabine Sikora is a nurse at the Dachau hospital.

December 31st this year is a special day for the woman from Dachau, because it is her first working day on New Year's Eve and at the same time her last working day in the hospital.

“I usually worked on Christmas,” says Sikora.

In the past, it was important for the 24-year-old to have New Year's Eve to celebrate with her friends.

“But this time nothing goes together on New Year's Eve anyway”, so it doesn't matter that she has to work until shortly before ten in the evening that day.

“The curfew” is “a bit stupid” for her.

This time the 24-year-old will start the new year with her boyfriend with a bottle of sparkling wine.

Michael Lorenz from Röhrmoos also had to put his New Year's Eve plans on hold.

A short trip to Vienna or Salzburg was originally planned, but the corona virus thwarted the travel enthusiast's bill.

“For the past few years I've been to a different city on New Year's Eve,” says the 26-year-old.

Whether it's a house party in Passau, a club tour in Frankfurt or a city trip in the Czech Republic: “It was always something special!” The New Year's Eve party in Prague in particular was his absolute highlight.

The 26-year-old regrets all the more that travel is not possible this year.

But Lorenz remains optimistic.

He already has an idea for the next New Year's Eve: “I would like to go to Berlin.” This year, the self-employed person is spending the turn of the year at home.

"My brother and I will cook something delicious and watch a good movie."
