Nicosia-Sana
Cypriot authorities announced today that the worst forest fire on the island in decades has been completely brought under control.
"The huge fire that broke out yesterday has been completely brought under control," the Cyprus Forestry Department said in a statement, noting that firefighting personnel are still deployed heavily in the vicinity of Arakapas town to deal with any possible additional fires.
The fire was the worst since 1960, killing four Egyptians, destroying 50 homes and power lines, evacuating ten villages and destroying agricultural crops in an area of about 55 square kilometers.
