Baoliang Ju Chen Shouren Primary School continues to promote organic farming teaching principal: let students practice planting knowledge

Classes resumed in September of the new school year. The Po Leung Kuk Chen Shouyan Primary School continued to launch an organic planting project, arranging some students to plant chestnut rice and learning the concept of "sustainable life" through experience.

During the school summer vacation, students are also arranged to draw tree-themed paintings to show the contribution of trees to the environment, the community and the future.

The work was added to the Hang Seng Bank’s "Messages" series of short films, which were uploaded to the official channel for display earlier this month.

Zhou Zhiming, the principal of Chen Shouren Primary School of Po Leung Bureau, stated that the school has always attached importance to environmental education, such as building organic gardens on campus rooftops and incorporating organic farming into school-based curricula so that students can practice planting knowledge.

The epidemic has lasted for two years. Zhou Zhiming said that organic planting activities must be suspended during the suspension of classes. Only after the new year this year the epidemic eases slightly before the activities can be resumed.

He pointed out that after school started in September this year, half-day face-to-face classes were maintained. The school continued to allow third-grade students to participate in the cultivation of chestnut rice; sixth-grade students participating in the "Little Farmer Project" took care of the garden and planted organic crops during their breaks.

The school has also continuously enriched the school-based curriculum, such as teaching students how to turn soil and understand the principles of planting boxes.

In addition, the school also arranged for 18 students to participate in the "Power of a Tree" creative collaboration project of Hang Seng Bank's "Messages". Through the theme of trees, the trees are drawn to show their contribution to the environment, the community and the future.

All the works were adopted in the short film and exhibited on the official channel at the beginning of the month.

He believes that students can use the project to develop their creativity and imagination, and their works can also be publicly displayed. He described the opportunity as a rare opportunity.
