Damascus-SANA

The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Samer Al-Khalil, confirmed that the mechanism for implementing the project to restructure the subsidy and directing it to its beneficiaries was discussed with the aim of achieving justice, supporting the most needy segments and filling the deficit in the state's general budget.

Minister Al-Khalil made it clear in an interview with Al-Souria channel this evening that the national economy has not fully recovered and that a large part of the deficit reduction will go to the most needy segments through in-kind or cash support.

Al-Khalil indicated that wealth, property and income were the criteria for determining the groups excluded from the support, pointing out that errors in data and information will be corrected.

Minister Al-Khalil indicated that the provision of support will return to each employee who was immediately excluded from the support, whether he was a military, civilian, retired, or on the job with an annual or day-to-day contract and owns as a “family” only one car, regardless of its capacity or date of manufacture, as soon as he submits an objection pending approval Auditing the objections by the concerned authority that will be referred to it at a time when work is underway to boycott the data and information and introduce other criteria for the groups excluded from the support.

Minister Al-Khalil pointed out that the 15 percent who were excluded from the subsidy own 47 percent of cars running on gasoline, and that the cost of a liter of unsubsidized diesel from the state amounts to 2500 Syrian pounds.

For his part, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Dr. Amr Salem, confirmed that the exclusion from the subsidy was based on the level of income of the different segments and the withholding of subsidies from the able ones.

Minister Salem indicated that the excluded segments amount to about 600,000 cards out of 4 million, equivalent to 15 percent of family cards, pointing out that those excluded from the subsidy will receive bread at a price of 1,300 pounds, which is a subsidized price in front of the real cost of the bundle of bread, which amounts to 1,800 pounds.
