McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Starbucks and other large companies suspend activities in Russia

"Our hearts go out to the people who are enduring the inconceivable effects of these tragic events in Ukraine," Coca-Cola said as it announced its decision to withdraw from the invading country.


Fast-food restaurant McDonald's announced Tuesday that it would temporarily close its more than 800 restaurants in Russia and condemned Moscow's bloody invasion of Ukraine.

Within hours, Coca-Cola announced that it was also "suspending business in Russia."

"Our hearts go out to the people who are enduring the inconceivable effects of these tragic events in Ukraine," the company said in a statement.

"We will continue to monitor and assess the situation as circumstances evolve."
