Fraudsters want to get their hands on valuables and cash with brazen calls.

An Echinger couple was also the victim of two "shock calls" - and reacted correctly.

Eching

– The criminal police repeatedly warn of fraudulent telephone crime, which often falls victim to older people.

In Eching, an infamous scam was stopped in time when the bank employees became aware of a huge cash withdrawal by an elderly customer and thus prevented the money from being handed over to the scammers.

The Echinger couple Herbert and Nora T. (

names have been changed

) recently received so-called “shock calls” within two consecutive days, which they immediately recognized as fraud and reported to the police.

As Nora T. reports, the first call – with a suppressed number – allegedly came from a police station where her adult daughter Sabine was supposed to be.

The young woman, it was said, was in an emergency situation and urgently needed the support of her parents.

In the background, a female voice called out: "Mom, help me," reports Ms. T. "But that wasn't Sabine's voice," she was sure - and despite her excitement she hung up immediately.

Scammers claim spouses are on burglar list

The couple reported the incident, as well as the second fraudulent phone call received the following day.

This also allegedly came from the police, who warned of a gang of thieves who were already on the move in the T. family's residential complex.

Now it is a matter of collecting the valuables in the house and handing them over to the police, because the spouses are on the list of burglars.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

With this call, too, the criminals got to the wrong people.

But often enough it is possible to rob gullible seniors with this or a similar scam.

The Ts found it particularly frightening that the scammers had specifically spied on them as a married couple in their advanced years and even knew their daughter's name.

"We can only warn and hope that word of these machinations gets around," said Herbert and Nora T.

That's what the police detective advises

  • If in doubt, end the call as quickly as possible without disclosing personal data or information about valuables or cash.

  • Do not respond to requests to transfer or hand over sums of money!

The real police will never ask for cash, wire transfers or anything of value from you.

  • If in doubt, call the police yourself (do not use the callback button).

  • In general, do not let strangers into your home!

  • Demand the ID card from alleged officials, for example police officers!
