Today, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Homs Governorate launched the Bread and Salt initiative for the second year, coinciding with the approach of the blessed month of Ramadan, which aims to deliver food baskets to the neediest families who are registered in NGOs in cooperation and coordination with the Al-Birr Association and Social Services and Al-Areen Foundation in the governorate.

On its first day, the initiative included the running of a number of buses carrying 18,000 food baskets containing food supplies such as sugar, rice, bulgur, oil, ghee, dates, lentils and flour for the need for mortar.

Labib Al-Akhwan, head of the Homs Chamber of Industry, said in a statement to reporters, the great response by industrialists and traders to implement this initiative, and it is scheduled to distribute about 50,000 food baskets and deliver them to the beneficiaries according to an electronic application developed by the governorate to monitor the families in need.

For his part, Iyad Draq Al-Sibai, head of the Homs Chamber of Commerce, pointed out in a statement to SANA reporter that this initiative comes as a continuation of the (People of Good) initiative launched under the patronage of the First Lady Asma al-Assad last year, indicating that the Chamber of Commerce implemented the first phase of the initiative during the Welcome Ramadan Shopping Fair in the city of Exhibitions in Al-Waer neighborhood ten days ago, today the stage of distributing food baskets and vouchers, and in the future, a charitable exhibition will be opened in the exhibition city.

Dr. Majid Sharbak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Birr and Social Services Association in Homs, explained in a similar statement that charitable and civil societies will distribute food baskets to families and deliver them to their beneficiaries, pointing to the contribution of NGOs during the month of Ramadan to a package of initiatives, including fasting breakfast and the implementation of sponsorship programs for poor families and orphans.

The launch of the initiative was attended by the Governor of Homs, Engineer Bassam Parsik, Omar Houriya, Secretary of the Homs branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, members of the Homs Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and official and civil events.
