Am Tegernsee: Mayor wants to accommodate refugees in oligarch villas - but "limited possibilities"

The media hype surrounding the municipality of Rottach-Egern and its Putin oligarchs is not diminishing.
Mayor Köck is now making headlines himself - with the idea of accommodating Ukraine refugees in Usmanow's villas.
Rottach-Egern - The municipality of Rottach-Egern does not come to rest: For weeks, the supposed oligarchs' paradise on Lake Tegernsee (Miesbach district) has been attracting huge media interest.
This is mainly due to Putin billionaire Alisher Usmanow, who owns several villas in Rottach-Egern.
Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) is now even receiving hate mail because of Putin's close friend in town.

Now the head of the town hall has surprised with a statement in the

Mayor wants to take away swanky mansions from Putin friend,"
the newspaper headlines online, including: "Three houses of Alisher Usmanov are to become refugee homes."

“I would like to make the villas available to Ukrainian refugees.

quoted the mayor as saying.
It sounds as if Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) wants to pry open the villa doors with a crowbar tomorrow and wave refugees in immediately.
But it's not that easy, as a call from our editorial team in the Rottach town hall shows.
That's exactly how he doesn't want to be understood.
According to his own statement to Bild, Köck has never demanded expropriation.

"Possibilities are very limited"
On the subject of sanctions against oligarchs, he says: "The possibilities on our part are very limited." However, should the federal government create the legal basis for expropriating the villas on the Rottach lake shore, according to Köck it would "make sense to give the municipality the design options for the real estate “.
In other words, these could then be used to accommodate refugees.
Around 50 war refugees have now found accommodation in Rottach-Egern - all of them in private accommodation.
"Unfortunately, we don't have large units," says Köck.
Living space is scarce in the valley community.
“Why should only a certain clientele be allowed to live by the lake?” asks Köck.
CSU federal deputy Alexander Radwan recently explained how sensible, but also legally difficult, an expropriation of oligarchs would be.
A whole new criminal offense would have to be created for this.
