After Silman: On the Likud's Intention - Orbach and Kara Israel today

2022-04-06T21:03:20.434Z

The 61-finger race: the last card of the coalition - the joint list • But Ayman Odeh's party will not be in a hurry to help • The Likud will also try to track down the exes - Sharan Hashakel and Zeev Elkin

Until the resumption of the Knesset session, both sides will try to arrive with a better starting point than the current one, for the parliamentary struggles that await them in the coming months until the summer recess.

Due to the political situation, the only address of the coalition to try to regain the majority of the 61 fingers it needs, is the joint list.

This, after it is already clear that the efforts to recruit MKs from the rest of the opposition factions - the Likud, religious Zionism, Shas and Torah Judaism - will not succeed.

It is estimated that the government is faltering and it is hard to believe that anyone would prefer to abandon the opposition at this stage and help the government revive it.

Regarding the prospect of cooperation with MKs from the joint list, opinions are divided, but there is no doubt that in the coming days and weeks, most of the efforts will be directed by coalition elements to operate in this channel.

On the part of the opposition, the apparent possibilities are more diverse.

In the coming weeks, the Likud, religious Zionism and the ultra-Orthodox parties will try to concentrate efforts, especially among Knesset members on the right and a new hope.

The main ones: Knight Kara and Sharan Hashakel.

Do not turn to "Norwegians"

The two have been in contact for some time, although until Silman's announcement there were no results or anything that could be defined as a breakthrough.

The intellect demanded the agriculture portfolio and she and Kara, each separately, set a list of additional and excessive demands as a condition of their joining.

The Likud does not know how to assess whether Silman's announcement will accelerate contacts with the two or, conversely, cause them to enter a freeze and fortification of the two in their parties.

Another option is Nir Auerbach.

The opposition estimated that it would be possible to put pressure on Auerbach, who is strongly rooted in the religious Zionist community, through rabbis and his immediate community in the Hadar Ganim neighborhood of Petah Tikva, but to their surprise Auerbach showed no signs of breaking.

He continues to attend his synagogue as usual every Saturday, and his immediate surroundings seem to support his stay in government, and those who do not - he is repulsed relatively easily.

At the same time, it is possible that Silman's break and the fact that she withdrew on the matter of the state's Jewish identity, will lead to increased pressure from the Likud and religious Zionism to also lead to Auerbach's surrender.

At the same time, there are fears that even if Auerbach retires, he may prefer to resign from the Knesset and not stay in it and bring about the overthrow of the government, out of loyalty to Bennett, who brought him to the party after losing the Jewish House election.

Another possibility, with a lower estimate, are other MKs such as Zeev Elkin, Ayelet Shaked, Yifat Shasha Bitton and Yoaz Handel. The opposition will have contacts with everyone, but as mentioned, the estimate that one of these names will come is very low.

These are ministers in the government and those who are invested in it too much to retire from it.

With the "Norwegian" Knesset members who entered the Knesset after the resignation of the ministers under the law, the opposition does not intend to hold talks because these are not real elected officials and their parties can lead to their removal from the Knesset at any moment.
