Fortuna Düsseldorf has eliminated the last doubts about staying in the class.
The second division soccer team deservedly won 3-1 (2-0) at 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday and, with 41 points, can theoretically no longer slip down to relegation place 16.
Jakub Piotrowski (20th minute), Felix Klaus (32nd) and Christoph Klarer (56th) scored for the Rhinelander's first away win under coach Daniel Thioune.
Heidenheim – The 47-year-old has been unbeaten in eleven games with Fortuna since taking office in February.
The hosts, for whom Maurice Malone reduced the deficit to 1: 2 (47th), suffered their third home defeat of the season.
Heidenheim initially did not come into play in front of 7778 spectators without head coach Frank Schmidt, who was represented by assistant coach Bernard Raab after a positive corona test.
Düsseldorf also started cautiously, but immediately took the first opportunity to take the lead when Piotrowski hit the right corner of the goal from a good 20 meters.

FCH, who were unlucky a little later when Oliver Hüsing headed the post (22nd), made four changes during the break and were now more committed for a short time.
But after Malone made it 2-1, it was Klarer who, after just under an hour, made things clear again in favor of the mellow Dusseldorf team.
