Toporovsky to the Likud: Pass the Metro Law and Visas Toporovsky | Israel today

2022-07-03T19:58:09.158Z

Just before the election break, coalition leader Toporovsky wrote a letter to the chairman of the Likud faction: "Put politics aside, we have a duty to promote the laws."

Following the announcement of the dissolution of the Knesset and the setting of an election date, the Knesset plenum is expected to convene today (Monday) for the last time before what will be called an "election recess."

The coalition's chairman, MK Boaz Toporovsky, wrote a letter to Likud faction chairman Yariv Levin, in which he demanded that the Likud and the opposition put politics aside and promote the Metro Law and the law allowing a visa waiver for the United States.

Last week, the opposition refused to promote the Metro Law and the law required to promote the exemption from visas to the United States before the dissolution of the Knesset.

"It's not too late"

"Now that the Knesset has been dissolved and the date for the 25th Knesset election has been set, all that remains is to do everything we can, so that we go into the election recess with the knowledge that we did our best for the citizens of Israel. "Visas, for Israeli citizens seeking to enter the United States," Toporovsky wrote in his letter.

Toporovsky accused the Likud of acting in recent months out of political interests and wrote: "We, both sides, have a duty to reach agreements to promote the laws. By doing so, you will have the opportunity to change the public image you have acquired in recent months and prove that you acted out of genuine concern Narrow political interest. "

He added: "It is not too late. We have four months of campaigning where we will quarrel and quarrel, but a moment before, it is important that we unite for the public who chose us all, including you, for future generations, for the relief of citizens, without any political gain or credit. "No citizen in Israel understands how these laws can be held hostage politically. Their non-promotion is a serious blow to public trust, which sees how parts of its electorate turn everything into a struggle and self-interest. On the contrary, the entire public expects us to act for them and put politics aside for a moment."

In conclusion, he wrote: "There is a state on the day after the election, there are citizens that we must take care of, and therefore, let's find the formula that will allow the approval of these important laws. If what you want is credit, I promise to give you everything. It's time for you to think about them too. "

As mentioned, Toporovsky's appeal indicates the line that is being taken against the Likud in the background of the election.

Bish Atid is working to convey to the public that they are acting in a state-run manner, while the Likud is acting out of political considerations at the expense of the citizens of Israel.

A similar example can be seen in the issue of the security update required by law between Prime Minister Lapid and the chairman of the opposition Netanyahu.

However, Netanyahu refused the offer and asked to be updated through the military secretary only.

The Likud claims that Lapid is making political use of the security update by inviting Netanyahu to it and is not willing to cooperate with it.
