President Joe Biden's expected visit to Israel has a significant strategic statement for bilateral relations between Israel and the United States, and expresses more than anything else the special closeness that exists between the two countries and the United States' commitment to Israel's security and safety.
Traditionally, American support for Israel over the years has been bipartisan, based on the similar perception of Democrats and Republicans of the interests and ideological values shared by the two countries.
It seems that the pro-Israel Republican policy that existed during Donald Trump's tenure continues almost unchanged by the current democratic administration.
However, it is important to look at reality with open eyes.
In fact, support for Israel is no longer a consensus.
Israel does not receive wall-to-wall support as we have become accustomed to taking for granted.
Today, a complex task has unfolded before us: to build and maintain relationships with the two parties and to restore the old crown.
The demographic strengthening of the immigrant populations in the United States, and with it the strengthening of the anti-Israel radical-left camp in the Democratic Party, for example, could severely hurt support for Israel.
The dynamics and changes in Israeli-US relations should urge us to take closer action, as the warning light has already gone on. It is not known what the rates of support for Israel will be in a decade. May provoke a counter-Israeli reaction of moving away from these circles.
Taking such a step could result in an irreversible disconnect from significant sections of the American population.
It is important to remember that in the same progressive circles in the Democratic Party there are also prominent moderate legislators, who maintain close relations with the Jewish community and with Israel.
What those moderate American politicians understand, and which the extreme progressive minority does not recognize, is the simple statement that Israel is a progressive, peace-loving country, protects the rule of law and the granting of equal rights and opportunities to all its citizens, and under no circumstances will it compromise its security.
Sound familiar?
These are the same values that characterize the United States, and which have served as the basis for the deep relationship with Israel over the years.
The government has a responsibility to work in a focused manner to formulate a strategy that will renew trust among the American public in both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.
Our ability and understanding to work with the entire American political spectrum is essential to the strength of the State of Israel and our connection with American Jewry.
