Disappeared place-name signs, mixed-up signs and now property damage through graffiti: the prank on the citizens of Hallertau continues.

Nandlstadt/Au

– The sign prank on citizens in the Hallertau continues: Once again, an unknown person damaged several traffic signs in the market towns of Au and Nandlstadt.

The plaques were smeared with red paint.

What the latest action is all about remains a mystery for the time being.

Only one thing is certain for Nandlstadt's mayor Gerhard Betz: "This is a premeditated act." And not for the first time.

The two Hallertau communities recorded the first sign prank in January: At that time, an unknown person exchanged the Auer town sign for one from Nandlstadt.

Further actions followed: At the end of March, some signs were stolen in Nandlstadt, and a few weeks later some traffic signs and place-name signs were vandalized and stolen.

Town signs in Nandlstadt were also removed at the beginning of May.

Even then, Betz suspected: "There's a professional at work." And even with the most recent incidents, he doesn't assume an act of affect - on the contrary: "It was a planned action," he says.

Because for the graffiti and also the damage to the signs you need “a ladder and appropriate tools”.

Smearing already removed: damage of up to 4000 euros per sign possible

Two of the smeared signs are the responsibility of the Freising State Building Authority - the large advance sign to the roundabout on the B301 and the sign at the B301/FS39/Mainburger Straße junction to Au, as press spokesman Thomas Jakob confirmed when asked by FT.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The graffiti have since been removed.

It is unclear whether the reflective protective film was destroyed during the cleaning operation - according to Jakob, this will become clear in the coming week.

If this is the case, the signs would have to be removed and replaced.

That would result in costs of around 4000 euros per sign.

The Freising State Building Authority has "reported against unknown persons for damage to property" to the police, Jakob said.

In Nandlstadt, district employees were on duty to remove the graffiti, reports Betz.

Nobody currently knows whether the same perpetrator was involved in all incidents.

That's why the motto that Betz issued in the spring still applies: "Keep your eyes open" - and report suspicious people.
