A 5-year-old boy claims that in his previous life he was an African-American woman who was killed in a fire and reincarnated.

Luke Rohlman made his parents cringe when he began insisting incessantly that he used to be a woman named Pam - whose name he's been mentioning since he was just two years old.

Luke's mother, Erica Ruhlman, told Fox 2 that her son started talking about a woman named Pam since he learned to speak, but the family didn't know a woman by that name and ignored it.

"When he was only two years old I asked him, 'Why did you call the ladybug Pam?'

He replied: 'I just think it's a nice name,'" said Erica Ruhlman, "I didn't think about it any further. It felt strange to me because we didn't know any Pam."

Soon the boy started calling everyone by the name of Pam - from toys to paintings, with increasingly strange responses.

One day Luke finally explained to his mother who Pam was.

"He turned to me and said 'Well, I used to be her, but I died and went to heaven.

Erica says that she was shocked and that she and Luke's father did not believe in religion and were not spiritual and that they had never discussed with their son about God or Eden, let alone life and death.

The mother claims her son often provided other chilling details.

He told his family he had taken the train to Chicago, but the family - who live in Cincinnati, Ohio - had never been to the city.

"He would say, 'When I was a kid, I had black hair,' or 'I had earrings like that when I was a kid,'" Erica shared.

At one point she asked him, "'Do you remember how you died?'. He looked me in the eyes and said, 'Yes, it was a fire.' Pam's?'

I asked him. He looked up at me as if it was obvious and said 'black'."

She began looking into her son's outlandish claims when she learned of a woman named Pam Robinson, who was one of the 19 people killed in the 1993 Paxton Hotel fire in Chicago.

In March 1993, a massive fire broke out in the property and trapped most of the residents in the upper floors.

19 died, including a woman in her 30s named Pamela Robinson.

"Pam jumped from a window to her death," said Erica Ruhlman, "I was really shocked at that point."

The Ruhlman family received an appeal from the Lifetime TV show The Ghost Inside My Child, which investigates supernatural phenomena.

Its producers also investigated Luke's shocking claims - and found evidence that he was telling the truth.

While filming, Luke was shown a whole page of photos with various black women in their 30s, one of whom was the late Pam Robinson.

The 5-year-old boy was asked to vote for Pam and didn't hesitate before choosing the right woman.

Watch an excerpt from the episode:

Erica was finally convinced to contact Pam's family to learn more about their late relative.

She discovered uncanny similarities between her son and Pam, including their shared love of Stevie Wonder.

Just as Erica connected to Pam's memory, Luke - according to her - "released" her.

"It was like he got it out of his system. He was done and had nothing more to say about it," Erica Ruhlman said.

Now the family continues to share their extraordinary story with anyone willing to listen, insisting they are not looking for publicity or money.

Pam's family declined to comment on the matter.
