The secrecy is over.

The Gmunder sea spirits had to remain silent for a year, now they could finally introduce their royal couple to the foolish court.

Gmund

– The court marshal made it exciting.

As if the three years of corona-related waiting time since the last enthronement had not been enough, Sebastian Hermann did not give a hint in his introduction to the princely couples of the Gmunder sea spirits who will soon be walking through the trellis of the guards.

Then the second chairman of the association left the stage.

When he re-entered it a few moments later, there was a kind of foolish deja vu for the 200 or so spectators in the fully occupied hall.

It was Hermann himself who, as Prince Wacki the 1st, heralded the long-awaited return of the carnival to Gmund.

"He just changed his jacket quickly," says Seegeister President Florian Gradl.

Wacki's better half in the fifth season, Sabrina Schwinger as Sabrina the 1st, was already waiting for him in a bright blue princess dress.

Carried by the thunderous applause, the couple almost floated through the hall and then let the duo Kurti and Mani celebrate into the night with dance music.

"It was a treat, a dream that finally came true": This is how Gradl describes the emotional state of the sea spirits, that after the short-term, pandemic-related cancellation of their 2021 event, which had already been completely prepared, it finally worked out this year with the start of the carnival.

"We were all so hot that it started again," enthuses Gradl.

And that the time of secrecy is over.

Because both the motto "Après Ski" and the two royal couples were already established last year, explains the Seegeister boss.

But despite the long time, it was possible not to let the surprise burst prematurely.

These are the two royal couples in civil life

The audience then listened to the performance of the four foolish dignitaries, who of course all live in Gmund, with even more excitement.

"Prince Wacki the 1st, reigning pop friend who rips half a liter", is 39 years old and works as a house technician.

"Princess Sabrina, the 1st, fittest ruler from the Bavarian Kammerl, who plays with the dumbbells", is 27 years old and an insurance clerk.

Unlike her prince, she isn't a homegrown sea spirit, not even a member, reports Gradl with a grin.

But since she accompanied her sister as a mascot when she appeared at the Guard, she was asked if she really wanted to take part.

The 27-year-old, who likes to work out in the gym in her free time, agreed.

A permanent entry into the Gmunder carnival,

the sea ghost president is convinced.

"They don't leave us anymore."

The child and youth prince couple does not intend to do that either: "Princess Berni the 1st, ruler of the skies" is called Bernadette Friesl in real life and comes from Hausham.

The 14-year-old attends the secondary school in Miesbach and likes dancing and playing dulcimer.

Her "husband", "Prince Quirin II, ruler of the nimble feet" lives in Warngau and goes to the Miesbach high school.

The 17-year-old likes to play football, dance and go skiing and sailing.

For the sake of order, the sea spirits make it clear that both princely couples only share the carnival love, but are not in a relationship in private life.

Looking forward to many performances

Until the carnival finale at the end of February, the foolish highnesses will complete a large number of performances together.

"Things really get going in January," announces Gradl.

Despite the mostly even stricter Corona requirements in the retirement homes there, they will also try to spread the joy of the fifth season.

The Tollities performed their probably most symbolic act the day after their enthronement.

In front of a number of spectators and in the best weather, accompanied by the guards, they marched from Oberstöger to the Gmund town hall to (peacefully) snatch the keys from Mayor Alfons Besel.

The head of the community, disguised as a captain, was happy to leave the steering wheel of his ship to the foolish representatives.

And according to Gradl, they vowed not to get too wild with their après-ski.

"We will protect the treasury," promises the President.

After all, sea spirits are not pirates.
