Childhood poet Burhan al-Shalil addressed in a lecture organized by the Orontes Literary Forum at the Homs Writers Union, entitled “Zenobia in Arabic Poetry,” the most prominent Arabic poems and poems that glorified the greatness of the Queen of Palmyra, “Zenobia,” who defeated the armies of Rome with the power and intelligence of her army and immortalized a civilization that will remain a shining beacon for future generations.

Al-Shalil indicated that Zenobia was Palmyrene by birth, of Arab descent, of Syrian heroism, and was known by famous titles, and her fragrant biography with her heroic essence fueled the pens of poets to praise her, her virtues, her steely personality, and her heroism in defeating the invaders in defense of her ancient city, Palmyra.

The lecturer reviewed the most prominent sayings of Syrian and Arab poets in their poems and poetic plays, singing Zenobia, which was a source of pride for every Arab. Among these poets are Abu Tammam, Omar Al-Taghlibi, Adnan Mardam Bey, Shibli Bey Al-Mallat, Michael Bustani, Issa Ayoub, Suleiman Al-Issa, Aref Tamer, Ahmed Asaad, Ahmed Nakrash, Daad Kanawati and Yassin. Ferjani and the brothers Assi and Mansour Rahbani.

Al-Shalil concluded his lecture, which included cultural and societal personalities, by saying: “Zenobia will remain a bright face in our Arab poetry, and the song of patriarchs, victory, and the path of liberation that we follow will remain in his footsteps.”

It is worth noting that Al-Shalil is a professor of Arabic language and a journalist and has published many books and poetry collections, including “Songs to Palmyra.”
