On February 23, ZDF will show the season finale of "Der Bergdoktor".
In "The Way Back" Martin Gruber is about to say goodbye and travel to New York.
But everything changes at the last minute.
Ellmau – The past few weeks must have been a real whirlwind of emotions for many fans of “Der Bergdoktor”.
Because after the 15th season of the popular home series came to a sad end with the departure of Anne (Ines Lutz, 39) and Franziska (Simone Hanselmann, 43), the eight new episodes were not a bit more forgiving.
On February 23, ZDF will show the final episode “Der Weg zurück” – which presents Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl, 53) and his already torn family with their greatest stroke of fate to date.

Since the first episode, drama has been on the agenda in the new "Bergdoktor" season - and the idyll that has prevailed in Ellmau has vanished.
The Grubers' house blessing is crooked and Hans (Heiko Ruprecht, 50) has banned his brother Martin from the Gruberhof - because after years of silence he had confessed to his relationship with his deceased wife Sonja.
In the season finale "The Way Back", a reconciliation between the two still seems hopeless and Bergdoktor Martin therefore wants to move to Franziska in New York - much to the chagrin of his mother Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner, 71).

Actually, nothing stands in the way of Martin Gruber's move to the Big Apple - his practice is closed and the mountain doctor is sitting on the plane with his bag packed, but then everything turns out very differently.
Because while her son is preparing to leave, Lisbeth suddenly collapses and is taken to the hospital – after Caro (Barbara Lanz, 39) found her unconscious in her kitchen.
For Martin it is clear: There is no way he can leave Ellmau now.
As fast as he can, he rushes to the hospital, where Lilli (Ronja Forcher, 26), Caro and Hans are waiting for him in dismay.
Hans Sigl's secret guest role in "Der Bergdoktor"
Since 2008, Hans Sigl has embodied the title hero Martin Gruber in "Der Bergdoktor".
The exciting life of the country doctor inspires millions of loyal fans with every episode and has made his actor one of the biggest stars of German television.
But what very few people know: the role as the son of Lisbeth Gruber is not Hans Sigl's first Bergdoktor appearance.
Because ten years before he slipped into the white doctor's coat, he was already seen as a taxi driver in the popular series that was still running on Sat.1 at the time and in which Gerhard Lippert, a completely different mountain doctor, was the focus.
Who knows - maybe an extra from the ZDF remake will one day succeed Hans Sigl?

Their last encounter ended in an explosive argument, but now Hans and Martin meet again - in front of their mother's hospital bed, who is still unconscious.
No one knows what exactly is missing from the head of the Gruber family, but in the past episodes it was clearly noticeable how much the quarrel between her sons weighed on her.
"Mom, we're here.
Do you hear?” Martin, close to tears, first turns to Lisbeth and then looks sternly at Hans: “Both.”

In the last "Bergdoktor" scene up to the start of season 17, Martin Gruber stands on the shore of a mountain lake and looks sadly into the distance - while his family happiness is in even greater danger than before.
Whether Lisbeth will be healthy again and whether the events of the last episode will bring her sons back together - unfortunately, fans will have to wait at least until winter for these answers.
Meanwhile, Ronja Forcher revealed that she once thought about quitting "Der Bergdoktor".
