Is it the last second rescue?

Alfons Schuhbeck was about to evict his beloved spice shop - but now the high rent debts have been paid.

60 employees can breathe a sigh of relief.

But the eviction is far from over.

Munich – fateful days for Alfons Schuhbeck (73)!

Yesterday he almost lost his spice shop on the Platzl - but rescue came at the last second: Schuhbecks Company GmbH's rent arrears were allegedly paid yesterday.

"Nothing is cleared for me," says Schuhbeck, whom tz reached on the phone.

The celebrity chef looks angry and relieved - his back is against the wall.

He was sentenced to three years and two months in prison for tax evasion, but his appeal against this judgment is still pending, so Schuhbeck is currently a free man.

The spice trade is the last bastion that holds up his name - the star chef lost all other companies in the course of his insolence.

At Schuhbecks Company he works on a fee basis.

Munich: Schuhbeck company was about to be evicted - now the debts have been paid

But: The company was sued by the Messerschmitt Foundation.

Reason: Schuhbecks Company has not paid any rent since June - the dispute is about 333,000 euros.

In mid-February, the foundation already pushed through the eviction of the shop at Platzl 4a before the district court.

However, it was agreed that this would not happen before March 15th.

A final reprieve...

And indeed: "Yesterday at noon we transferred the rent arrears for the spice shop on the Platzl to the landlord, the Messerschmitt Foundation," says Joachim Borggräfe, lawyer for Schuhbecks Company.

A total of 350,000 euros were paid - as well as the March rent for the spice shop.

Borggräfe zur tz: "I assume that the rents can also be paid in the coming months."

Alfons Schuhbeck: Star chef fears for his spice trade - new process for Fonsi's apartment is imminent

The spice shop is still open.

"We hope to be able to avert the eviction," says Borggräfe.

That is far from guaranteed.

Because the foundation obtained a title in court and is thus authorized to obtain a bailiff with the eviction of the spice shop.

For Schuhbecks Company and its 60 employees, this would probably mean the end.

So far, however, there has been no enforcement order to clear the store, says Martin Swoboda, spokesman for the district court.

Schuhbeck and the company can continue to hope.

But new trouble is already on the horizon: Because the Messerschmitt Foundation is now also suing for the eviction of a rented apartment that Schuhbeck lives in at Platzl 4 - the lawsuit is directed against himself and the Schuhbecks Company.

In a further process, he now threatens to lose his apartment.
