They are about twenty men in military fatigues, not very young, grouped around their Chechen instructor, a sturdy bearded man named Tamerlan.
The “workshop” is devoted to the basic techniques of first aid to the wounded: placing a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, moving a wounded soldier to shelter… Not far away, a second squad, Kalashnikov rifle in hand, trains in tactical movement.
Gusts crackle.
Another instructor shouts orders to position, each in turn, the shooters facing the targets while their comrades cover them.
The vast gravel ground training ground has been carved into the hillside.
On the embankment, an inscription in huge letters:
“Allahu Akbar.”
All are volunteers to fight in Ukraine.
In a few days they will be on the front -
