A young man from East Jerusalem who vandalized vehicles in the city's Neve Yaakov neighborhood was shot tonight (Monday) by police officers.

The police said that the vandalism of the vehicles was suspected to be nationalistically motivated.

According to the police, early this morning the police received a report about a person causing damage to many vehicles in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood.

Sheft police officers who were called to the scene identified the suspect as wearing a coat and holding some object in his hand.

At the same time as meeting him, an explosion was heard from a parked vehicle, which was apparently set on fire by him.

It was also reported that the police began the procedure of arresting a suspect and asked the suspect to take off his coat, but he did not respond to their calls.

At one point, he started muttering "Allahu Akbar" and one of the policemen fired a single bullet at him.

He was injured and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Police forces arrived at the scene, and in their searches they located a vehicle that had been set on fire and at least ten other vehicles that the suspect had damaged.
