"For a building to come out of the ground, it's a worker, every day, that we bury"

.

The CGT Construction, wood and furniture carried out a punch action in Lyon this Friday, as elsewhere in France, on the occasion of Occupational Health and Safety Day.

Trade unionists have colored the water of the famous Jacobins fountain in red, transforming it into a "pool of blood", to challenge the working conditions of construction workers.

The CGT asks to limit subcontracting and calls for human reinforcements.

Stressing the risks of a job where

"the majority of employees can no longer work at age 53"

, the union demands recognition of the arduous nature of these jobs as well as early retirement at 55.

And activists hold up black signs with the names and ages of deceased workers to pay tribute to them.

The construction sector is the most affected by these serious accidents, but those of road transport, waste collection and even personal assistance are not spared.

In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes alone, the prefecture counted 2,000 serious accidents in 2021, including 83 fatalities.

"Construction, Ehpad, road transport, home help, cleanliness, collection and treatment of waste are the sectors most affected"

, specify the services of the State.

The average duration of work stoppages after these accidents is 4 months, at a cost of 239 million euros for social security.
