Vaucluse: an armed man neutralized by bullets while attacking two gendarmes, shouting "Allah akbar"

A man was shot and wounded after wounding gendarmes from the motorway platoon in Orange (Vaucluse), on the afternoon of Sunday May 7, reports

The man in his thirties, who is not from the region, was checked by two soldiers around 2:30 p.m. when he was near a brush fire, near the Mornas rest area (north of Orange).

According to the local newspaper, he pulled out a knife and an iron bar before attacking the police.

The latter would have responded with their electric pulse pistol and then with their handguns.

The assailant was reportedly hit five times by bullets and rushed to hospital in Avignon.

His condition is said to be critical.

Motives still unknown

During this altercation, two gendarmes, women aged 44 and 29, were injured.

Also transferred to the hospital, they would have been only slightly affected.

As part of the investigation, large resources were deployed on the ground for the rest of the day.

The man reportedly fled after the accident.

About sixty firefighters intervened on the spot to come to the aid of the victims.
