Wolfratshausen – The former third mayor of the Loisach city, the surgeon Dr. Bert Thomas Lange, has died a few weeks before his 93rd birthday. From 1978 to 2002 he was a member of the Wolfratshausen city council and from 1996 to 2002 third mayor – during this time he was also a member of the district council for the Free Voters. "In his 24 years as a city councillor, he was exemplary in his commitment to the interests of the city of Wolfratshausen and the well-being of its citizens. Throughout his term of office, he worked tirelessly and unselfishly at the service of the city," said Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner.

At the time, the deceased had represented the head of the town hall, Reiner Berchtold. "I got to know Dr. Lange when I was a young police officer," says the Waldramer. It was not uncommon for Lange to be on duty in the emergency room of the district clinic when Berchtold presented an alcohol offender for a blood draw. The cooperation between him as head of the town hall and his deputy "was always very good," the ex-mayor sums up. At the beginning of the 2000s, there was a big hole in the city coffers, "the time was not easy, we had to stick together," says Berchtold. He had appreciated Lange's "constructive criticism" very much, "he has always oriented himself to the matter". Lange, a passionate fly carrier and cyclist, was unfamiliar with political fireworks.

With deep respect and gratitude for his work, we mourn the loss of Dr. For a long time and will always honor his memory.

The surgeon, born on 13 June 1930 in Opole in Silesia, signed on in 1966 after completing his specialist training in Gelsenkirchen and Düsseldorf at the Wolfratshausen district clinic – the new building on Moosbauerweg was opened in the same year. In retrospect, the senior physician remembered the first few weeks with a slight horror: "We went directly into the operating room with our shoes without an airlock", there was no anesthesiologist, this work was still carried out by "Kathl", the nurse Katharina Loher, until 1968. For a long time, he remained loyal to the district clinic until retirement age.

Lange pulled the strings in the organization of the 1000th anniversary celebration of Wolfratshausen

In June 2007, the city awarded Lange the Citizen's Medal. On this occasion, Reiner Berchtold described the honouree as an "almost studied theatre scholar" whose whole love was cultural work. Lange owned an extensive collection of literature and used his scarce free time for sculpting and pottery. As a mandate holder, Lange, whom Berchtold attested to "assertiveness and perseverance", played a decisive role in the founding of the municipal music school. In addition, he was one of the founding members of the Wolfratshausen Children and Youth Development Association.

Even after his retirement from the city council, Lange pulled the strings in the organization of the 1000th anniversary celebration of the rafting town in 2003 - and won his former schoolmate, Duke Franz of Bavaria, as patron. Lange himself was "somewhat moved" after the laudatory speech and felt "in any case too much praised" by the citizen's medal. Throughout his life, he had "somehow always been a deputy". In the spirit of this role, he wants to "mentally share with all citizens" the third highest award awarded by the municipality.

In 2017, the district association of the European Union honoured Lange with the Golden Badge of Honour on the occasion of his 40th anniversary as a "deserving European".

"With deep respect and gratitude for his work, we mourn the loss of Dr. For a long time and will always honour his memory," said Mayor Heilinglechner. "Our sincere condolences go out to his family." (cce)

The service and subsequent funeral will take place this Thursday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the cemetery in Wolfratshausen-Nantwein.
