Carrefour Israel, part of French retail giant Carrefour, will launch 50 branches across the country tomorrow (Tuesday), about a year after signing the agreement with Electra Consumer Products. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Economy Minister Nir Barkat celebrated the chain's official entry into Israel and toured the Carrefour branch in Beit Shemesh.

"This is a historic and important achievement that will lower prices and finally open the market to competition," Barkat said. "For years they tried to bring foreign chains to Israel, and after extensive moves that we led, we succeeded in dismantling regulations and barriers – and now prices have dropped. Carrefour is the first swallow, followed by other international chains that will lower the supermarket cart. What is good for Europe is good for Israel, now the citizens of Israel will be able to feel it in their writers."

On the other hand, Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid attacked Netanyahu and claimed that the move was led by the opposition, particularly former Economy Minister Orna Barbivai. "I have no doubt that Netanyahu simply forgot to thank the government of change and Economy Minister Barbibai for bringing the Carrefour chain to Israel while he was in the opposition at all – sometimes you forget," he said.

Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman also joined in, saying that it was the opposition that promoted the move. "I met with Carrefour's management at the Ministry of Finance and made it clear that we will continue to work to reduce bureaucracy in order to promote their entry and the entry of additional chains into Israel," he said. "Netanyahu, as usual, as the last of the liars, ran to launch the Carrefour branch and claims that they came to Israel as a result of the moves and reforms he made. Bibi, instead of filming, it's time for action – we're tired of lies."
