Marathon on the pots: Nigerian chef Hilda Afyong Bassey has become a national sensation in the African country after announcing an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for consecutive cooking. The young cook decided that she would stand and prepare dishes for a hundred hours straight.
The chef, known on social media as Hilda Baki, started cooking on Thursday and did so continuously until Monday, preparing 55 different recipes as part of 100 separate meals aimed at showcasing the winning dishes of Nigerian cuisine.

The record is awaiting approval by the Guinness World Records Committee, which is currently examining whether Besey meets all the criteria necessary to hold the world record. The current record belongs to chef Latte Tondon from India, who stood in front of the pots for a full 87 hours and 45 minutes. The chef sent congratulations to the Nigerian contender for the title.
"My motivation to do this is to put Nigerian food on a map. Nigerian cuisine is the best there is. The more publicity our recipes get, the more people around the world will want to try it. Nigrami food is such comfort food," the chef told CNN during the challenge.
Hundreds gathered in a park in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, to watch the young chef try to break a world record. For her part, she remained in excellent spirits despite the growing fatigue. A spectator who came specifically to see Bassey from Beshelet told local media: "I took the bus for 12 hours to support her. She's just amazing!"
