A 22-year-old inmate was captured Sunday about 250 miles from the West Texas prison from which he had escaped hours earlier after jumping a fence, authorities said.
Trent Thompson was last seen at about 11:14 p.m. on Saturday at the Formby unit in the city of Plainview and was arrested around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday in Coleman, southeast of Plainview, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.

Authorities suspect that after jumping a prison fence, Thompson fled in a vehicle he stole, said Amanda Hernandez, a spokeswoman for the Department of Criminal Justice.
The suspect had been convicted of three counts of aggravated robbery in Taylor and Coleman counties, as well as aggravated assault on a public official in Coleman County, authorities said. He was due to be released in 2052. He now faces felony hit-and-run charges, prison officials said Sunday.

A year ago, a grandfather and his four grandchildren — ages 11 to 18 — were murdered on their Central Texas ranch by Gonzalo Lopez, a convicted felon who had escaped from a prison shuttle bus.
Lopez killed the family about three weeks after fleeing, then stole a truck from the ranch and drove it more than 200 miles before being gunned down by police.
