Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem - the colorful market that unites communities and cultures, past and present - is celebrating its 100th anniversary. As part of the festivities, two prominent culinary events will be held. Today (Sunday) at Valero Square in the market, leading Jerusalem chefs and restaurateurs will compete before a panel of judges for the "dish of the century" - a dish that tells the story of the market. Among them: Assaf Granit's Mahaniuda Group, Jaco Street, "HaMotzi" Avi Levy and chef Rachel Ben-Elul. The dish will be chosen by the judges: Shalom Kadosh, Maya Darin, Ezra Kedem and pastry chef Keren Kadosh.

The second day of the centennial celebrations will take place the next day, July 3, at the Inbal Hotel in Jerusalem. It will focus on an international conference of 21 from Israel and the world. The event will include discussions about the future of the markets, and will include a lunch called "Chefs Cook a Market" in the hotel's courtyard, where Jerusalem restaurateurs will join together and prepare dishes that characterize the market. Among the stalls that will be set up there will be, for example: a stand by Uri Navon from Makhanyuda and Oren Sasson from the Ishcook restaurant, who will prepare the dish "tail for lions and not head for foxes" - Kurdish gyoza stuffed with polenta, head and tail served with beef broth, pickled mushrooms and hot pepper jam. Chef Rachel Ben-Elul (Rachel Bashdra) and Chef Marcus Gershkovitz (Angelica) will prepare Kobe Chinese with salad of greens and pickles. Ranem Barhoum (Rashta) and Nadav Malin (Luisa) will prepare deconstructed meat with eggplant confit on Lubya's tavern, and much more.
