The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) issued a nine-page letter on Sunday that was defined as an urgent warning: "The people's army is in danger of being dismantled – we are on the way to a weak army and a reality that endangers the equation of regional deterrence, all in the face of growing threats on a variety of fronts. Call for an immediate halt to unilateral legislation and striving for changes with broad consensus," they wrote.
"A fierce upheaval is underway in the IDF and undermines the foundations of the people's army; erosion of deterrence vis-à-vis enemies; the deterioration of the special relationship with the United States; weakening the economy, particularly high-tech; deepening the rifts in society and weakening national resilience as a whole," the letter said.

The INSS researchers determine that these damages will be greatly exacerbated if one side defeats the other, and therefore the only way out is an immediate and complete halt to the legal reform, followed by a halt to the protests, and the initiation of a political-leadership act that will reflect the will of the vast majority of the people: a genuine dialogue about the constitutional foundations of the State of Israel, while directing maximum governmental efforts and resources to dealing with the burning problems of national security, society and economy.
