The October 7 surprise is the kind of disastrous surprise that, in retrospect, whoever wants to - can gather all the indicative signs that explain it. Signs that also explain the outbreak of war at the present time, but more than that – signs of the collapse of a long-standing social-security concept.
So the signs and mutual accusations exist. But this is not the time. During the war that suddenly broke out at the beginning of autumn, the IDF will have to undergo a revolution, we will have to go through this revolution in our souls. The events that took place on October 7 are on the scale of bloody failures from the <> war. There is no other way to describe them. From then on, the government and the IDF must come to their senses and move on to a counterattack as soon as possible. I wish it was possible to start the counteroffensive inside the Gaza Strip today or tomorrow. But as part of the nefarious perception that has taken over the army and security services, the people of Israel will be forced to go into waiting. The required operation is the occupation of Gaza; those who rely on the air force will not get the necessary result.

Talking about "they will pay a heavy price" etc. conveys an undesirable meaning. Whoever says this is thinking about aerial bombardment and precision fire from the ground in order to produce many funerals on the other side. That's not what it takes. This time, the IDF is required to destroy the rocket and missile infrastructure and eliminate the Hamas leadership and, if possible, the organization itself.
The number of civilian casualties is not yet known. But this is an order of magnitude higher number than the War of Independence, as mentioned. A large-scale operation in Gaza will exact a high price from the IDF, and it is best to forget about the numbers we remember from the last generation. If the people of Israel want to maintain their independence, they will not be able to allow the continuation of economic bargaining and the policy of rounds. The IDF has not learned the lesson from the Ukraine war, which requires increasing the order of battle and preparing for heavy attacks on the home front and civilians.

Once again, we learn that Israeli society and its various systems do not wake up until the knife cuts through the neck and blood splashes. In the past, several bloody incidents were enough to catapult us to unity and alert; Today, because of the social deterioration that Israel has experienced for many years, it is not enough for families to be killed in murders of terrorists, it is not enough for a mother and daughter to be murdered in the Hebron area or on a road in the Jordan Valley. Today it takes a terrible shock to bring back something of the basic healthy response of a people in war.
In order not to have to fight Shlomi, Metula, Misgav Am and Manara in the coming days, we need surprising preliminary action on our part against Hezbollah. Israel is paying the price, among other things, for the alienation of the US administration over the past year.
After all the mockery about the surprise and failure of Yom Kippur, Israel should not have suffered such a severe blow again by passive standing. It is hard to think of a worse joke than the fact that the IDF has distanced fence demonstrators in Gaza in recent weeks with "crowd control measures." The thought was that when the fence and the underground barrier were completed, we were all set. The infiltration and murder of two soldiers in the southern Negev a few months ago by a uniformed Egyptian "lunatic" revealed more than a local mistake. It exposed a low level of soldiers, a low level of alert and discipline, and the disintegration of the IDF's operational military culture – a kind of night of surfboards that heralds serious developments.
