The United States is stepping up its alert due to the events in Israel. In New York, it was decided to increase security around Israeli institutions and those with Israeli or Palestinian identification in response to the war raging in Israel.
In a statement, the NYPD said, "The NYPD's Counterterrorism and Intelligence Division operates in a high-alert format. As global events may affect New York City, we increase our presence around houses of worship and other areas."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams responded to the incident and expressed his support for Israel and his condemnation of the Hamas terrorist organization: "New York stands with Israel, and today - more than usual. This is the cowardly activity of a terrorist organization that seeks to undermine peace and divide us."
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin instructed the Department of Defense to consult with U.S. allies committed to peace and counterterrorism in light of the situation in Israel. Austin will continue to work with Minister Gallant in the coming days and weeks to secure the necessary assistance to the State of Israel.
