As a sign of support for Israel: Novus restaurant in Missouri will be certified in cooperation with the local Chabad House and will donate all proceeds to Israelis in need • "When I saw the pictures and videos on TV, I knew I couldn't sit idly by," explains the owner

A restaurant in St. Charles, Missouri, USA, will change its menu for one evening only and serve only kosher dishes, as a gesture for Israel against the backdrop of an iron sword war. The restaurant, Novellus, which is not kosher at all, will perform the conversion on October 26 in cooperation with the local Chabad House.

Bob Appholder, the owner of the restaurant, who himself is not Jewish, also announced that all proceeds from that evening would be donated to Israel and that he himself would donate out of his own pocket an equal amount to the business's income on the kosher evening.

"When I saw the pictures and videos on TV, I knew I couldn't sit idly by. I had to do something," Upholder said. "I wanted to be there for the people of Israel and demonstrate my support for Jews everywhere, now in their difficult times."

The proceeds will first go to the Chabad Kollel and from there will be donated to the needy in Israel. "What Novus is doing is more than exciting. We want the place to be full from wall to wall to show the world that St. Charles stands with Israel," said Rabbi Chaim Lande, one of the Chabad leaders in the American city, who is involved in the project. "The process of converting a restaurant to kosher is extremely complex. It's very unusual to do this for just one day, which is why it's so meaningful and heartwarming," he added.

Moreover, the training process will force the restaurant to close its doors for at least one day. As a result, Novus will be closed on October 25, which will undoubtedly hurt its revenue flow. That's why the gesture is even more impressive.
The kosher menu is expected to be published soon on the evening's official event page. Reservations are mandatory.
