While the Kremlin took a pro-Palestinian stance in the war and delayed for days even expressing condolences to Israel, Russia's Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar praised Putin last night and even suggested implementing Russia's attempt at religious coexistence in the Middle East.
At a meeting between the leaders of the religious streams in Russia and Putin, Rabbi Lazar said: "We can take as an example what is happening here in Russia - peace between Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, between all religions and all peoples. In fact, this is an example for the whole world. It is possible to consider why here we can live in friendship, help each other, celebrate together, and there we cannot. The answer is simple: We have a smart president."
Lazar said, "Russia is acting aggressively against terrorists. And the result is visible. Therefore, I hope that the Russian experience will serve as an example for the Middle East and other regions that are facing this problem. So, once again a huge thank you to you. May God give you the strength to solve the problem so that there will be peace in the Middle East, and with God's help in the entire world."
Putin, who is accused of war crimes that have killed hundreds of thousands of people and caused injury. Millions more, Lazar thanked. Russia condemned Hamas' terrorist attack near Gaza only yesterday, before vetoing a resolution affirming Israel's right to defend itself at the UN Security Council.
