Grosso Napoletano climbed to the top step of the podium. Since 2017, this brand has been popularizing Neapolitan pizza in Spain, first in Madrid, then in Barcelona, Seville or Zaragoza. Da Michele, who was first for two years, slipped to second place. Born in Naples 150 years ago, this address is now present, in addition to Italy, in Japan, England, Spain, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Germany.
Big Mamma and Peppe in the top 10
Cocorico, third place goes to the French group Big Mamma, launched in 2015 with East Mamma in Paris, by Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux. The duo, who met at HEC and get their supplies from Italy, now have 23 restaurants, including 8 in Paris (La Felicità, Pink Mamma, Popolare, etc.), 5 in London, 2 in Madrid, 1 in Lille, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Monaco, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin. In addition to having launched the Napoli Gang delivery service in France, England and Spain, Big Mamma is preparing to open on December 1st, its first trattoria... in Italy! It will be Gloria, in Milan. Does this third place bode well for them to be successful in the land of pizza?
Pizza chef Peppe Cutraro Peppe
Another French chain is making it into the top 10: Peppe Cutraro's addresses, 10th, which until last year was ranked (better) in the list of the best pizzerias. The native of Naples' Quartieri Spagnoli, former executive chef of Big Mamma, opened his first address on rue Saint-Blaise, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, in early 2020. Since then, the man who won the Neapolitan World Pizza Championship has opened four other addresses in Paris (5th and 9th) and in the suburbs (Levallois, Boulogne), and is preparing a sixth in Bordeaux. Giuseppe Cutraro also took home the prize for the best entry in the ranking of the year.
The top 50 is completed by an "excellent" selection (which includes the Eataly store, present in Paris), which brings the number of award-winning brands to 75, for a total of 1200,20 establishments, 000,2 employees and a turnover (increasing) of more than $<> billion, the organizers said.
