Fürstenfeldbruck - On the occasion of the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women", which took place on 25 November, the Specialist Counselling Centre for Women has joined this year's flag campaign of Terre des Femmes with the theme "#StellDichNichtSoAn - stand up against sexualised violence against women!".
For many people, the topic of sexualised violence is still exclusively associated with rape. This topic also includes grabbing the buttocks in the crowded S-Bahn, sexual innuendo at work or abusive comments on the Internet. Women of all ages and social classes are exposed to sexualised violence, both in public spaces and within their own four walls – in fact, two out of three women in Germany experience sexualised violence in their lifetime.
Suffering in silence
And yet, in many places in society, there is still a lack of awareness about it, so that in many cases those affected do not feel taken seriously with their experience and are confronted with sentences such as "Don't act like that", "That was just meant to be funny" or "But you are sensitive". This is exactly what causes women to continue to suffer in silence.
For 39 years now, the association Women Helping Women FFB has been supporting women affected by violence in three institutions: the Specialist Counselling Centre for Women, the Intervention Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence (here women and men) and the Women's Shelter. If you are interested in becoming a member of the association or making a donation, you can find more information on the www.frauen-helfen-frauen-ffb.de website.
