A difficult day in the city of Rehovot. Two residents of the city fell in battle in the southern Gaza Strip. This evening (Monday), during the funeral of Sgt. Tal Filiba at the Rehovot cemetery, came the devastating news of the death of another son from the city - Capt. Yarin Gehli, a platoon commander in the Givati Patrol, only 22 years old. He is survived by his parents and a brother.

Like Philiba, Gehli was a talented basketball player. He played in the youth department and in the senior team of the Maccabi Rehovot basketball club, was one of the most prominent and dominant players in the team and also served as captain. After his enlistment, he continued to coach basketball classes and work as a volunteer at summer sports camps in the city of Rehovot. At De Shalit High School, where he studied, he is said to have been "an officer and a gentleman. Quiet, humble, ambitious, superstar, beloved and hero."

Rehovot Mayor Rachamim Malul eulogized: "This is a difficult day for the city of Rehovot, with the difficult news of another soldier from the city who fell in the war. Rehovot lost its best sons. With the Gehli family, we mourn the heavy loss of Yarin, and share her great sorrow and send our heartfelt condolences on behalf of all the residents of Rehovot."

Miki Shikanagi, the administrative director of the Maccabi Rehovot basketball club, said of Yarin: "We are completely shattered. Yarin was a hardworking, committed actor, a special and genuine guy – there is no other way to describe him. He decided to give up basketball in favor of combat service, which is a great loss for Israeli society as a whole."
