TSV Murnau against TSV Partenkirchen: This duel will no longer exist in men's handball. The two teams will compete together in the future - but under one name and in a different league.

  • Murnau was forced to act due to various departures
  • The idea of the cooperation came up 16 years ago
  • Murnau renounces his name and provides the trainer

District - It is not known how Walter Merkl said himself. But you can be certain: he will like the partnership between TSV Partenkirchen and TSV Murnau. The former handball guru of SSV Ettal thought 16 years ago what will now become reality: a merger of the large clubs in the district.

In fact, Merkl has nothing to do with today's construction, he just provided the first, early construction plans. The architects are now called Maximilian Dück and Hannes Bräu. The second named is a holdover from this time around 2004, when TSV Partenkirchen practically rediscovered itself. Bräu says of himself that he has been in the handball business for 25 years - including his time with the little ones. The TSVP's deputy head of department has experienced a lot, but he could not imagine THAT: A project that was negotiated a few times, speculated over and over again and very often talked and dreamed about. 16 years in total. Now it will be available within a week. It's almost like dismantling the Murnau Hans Burger Hall and building it in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the same time. “Crazy, completely crazy,” comments Bräu. This is what the other clubs, the friends from the south of Munich, said when they heard what was going on: "Are you crazy?"

Murnau gives up its name

At the beginning, two weeks ago, there was a message from Maximilian Dück, the trainer of TSV Murnau. This read like a cry for help and an offer to Partenkirchen. The next day, Bräu and Dück spoke on the phone. “You're kidding me. You're completely crazy, ”Bräu shouted into the receiver. After years of fiddling about a cooperation, Dück spread all his belongings in front of him and willingly offered them. It looked like this: The TSV announces its team from the district league, joins Partenkirchen and both compete in the district league together. Under the club coat of arms of the TSVP. The Murnau players have given their nod to this approach.

The TSV heart is bleeding.

Peter Rummelsberger, head of the Murnau department

That may sound as submissive as possible and amount to self-flagellation for loyal TSV supporters. But no other way led to a cooperation and a future vision for Murnau. "The TSV heart is bleeding," admits the Murnau department head Peter Rummelsberger. “But that's a step for the future.” Otherwise the team would have dispersed, Dück, the handball missionary, would have moved on, or he would have simply stopped. Bräu speaks of "a great sacrifice" that Murnau made by giving it its name. "Exactly the sign that it needed."

Old thinking thwarted visions

In previous years the TSV negotiated from a strong position. The association would only have entered into an alliance as a senior partner. This claim to power resulted from the power structure in the district. Those who wanted to play high-class handball went to Murnau. That was always so. This thinking has thwarted visions.

But the landscape has changed. In terms of sport, both teams have reached roughly the same level, if you take someone like Thomas Stanglmair away from TSV. But it stopped anyway. What the divisions now differ in is their philosophy for the men's division. Partenkirchen markets its product like a professional team. A look at the social networks is enough. Some may laugh about it because it's only the second bottom division. But the image of the alpine warriors exudes charm and attracts viewers.

To a large extent, the Bräus factory raves about professionalism. He also speaks - in relation to the new coalition - of the "better conditions" in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The new hall in the Olympic ice sports center offers a weight room, seminar room, an outdoor area with artificial turf. He considers the hall at the Zugspitz Realschule to be the "most beautiful in the district".

New start in the district league

They'll play there from October. Every Saturday at 7.30 p.m. In red jerseys with TSV Partenkirchen and TSV Murnau written on them, as well as the motto "Strong together", which the TSVP actually thought up for its department. Everyone involved sees the first season as a test run. Rummelsberger has already made claims to return at least partially to Poschinger-Allee in year two. “We have to die this death in the first year.” In his opinion, a neutral name for the construct would also be desirable. For example HSG Werdenfels, even if the association tries vehemently to avoid such mergers. HSG Werdenfels could still be on the jersey or in social media. Both sides strive for unity. “This is a joint project,” emphasizes Bräu, who wants to send a message to young people. He has no desire to lose the greatest talents to the competition just because there is no district top division or state division in the region.

Nevertheless, the withdrawal from the BOL is certain. The makers thought about it and thought something. They'd rather build a team carefully in the district league than overturn a class over it in the Corona year. “It's a long-term story. The district league is the better league for this, ”emphasizes Bräu. A reserve team starts in the district class and is supposed to escape the depths in the long term. The two architects are also the site managers. Dück takes over the chief position, Bräu helps as an assistant trainer. Today, Tuesday, they are together in the hall for the first time.
