Numerous young Freisinger track and field athletes competed at the German Championships in Ulm.

In addition to new personal bests, valuable experience was gained.

Freising/Ulm

– The track and field athletes from TSV Jahn Freising and LAG Mittlere Isar drew attention to themselves with strong performances at the German U18 and U20 championships in Ulm last weekend.

Two of them could hardly believe their luck after the competitions.

With Frida and Lotta Giersdorff, two Jahn steeplechase athletes took part in the national title fights - and trainer Jörg Kunstmann had prepared the sibling duo perfectly for this big event: The training sessions were postponed to the late evening in advance, around the body to get used to it as best as possible.

Her competition run was scheduled for this time of day.

In addition, the two were in top form - they had proven that with double silver at the Bavarian championships and their times.

The strategy for the 2000 meter obstacle course in Ulm was clear from the start: “In view of the strong field of participants, you shouldn't get too involved at the beginning, and you shouldn't start the race too quickly.

Frida and Lotta can always trust in their final sprint,

TSV Jahn Freising: Sprint qualities of the Giersdorff sisters pull it out

In the U20s, Frida Giersdorff had to let the first three runners go quickly because their pace was too high from the start.

A group of five formed behind them – and there she was in the middle.

Lap by lap, Frida made up ground on the leading trio and fought her way down the home straight to fourth place.

Looking at her time of 6:59.62 minutes, she was only three seconds short of jumping onto the podium.

"We never expected that she would claw fourth place in the German Championships and undercut her personal best by eleven seconds," said Kunstmann.

Her little sister in the U18 age group caused an even bigger surprise. Lotta Giersdorff is already known for her great final sprint, this time he was just crazy.

The woman from Freising worked her way from group to group until the last lap.

Then she fired up the turbo and started a 400 meter final sprint.

It paid off – she crossed the finish line in 7:10.86 minutes as the fifth fastest.

A second quicker and she would have finished fourth.

Either way, she smashed her previous record of 7:32.37 minutes into the ground with an increase in performance of 22 seconds.

Frida and Lotta also have the norm for the Bavarian squad in their pockets.

While Frida now exchanges her training for a well-deserved vacation, Lotta wants to know it again at the runners' meeting in Neustadt.

There she would like to try the DM standard over the 800 meter distance.

LAG relay runs in 22nd place

Being there is everything!

– that was the motto of the LAG relay quartet for the DM in Ulm.

Recently, the girls of trainer Gaby Hagl were happy about silver at the Bavarian and a new personal best, which secured them participation in the German Championships over the 4x100 meter distance.

In Ulm, the tide has now turned against them.

The bad news a week before the start: Lana Pavic, the fastest sprinter in the relay, had to pass due to illness.

She had even given up her individual assignment at the DM in Bremen in order to concentrate on the relay.

Svea Schütte from Dorfen spontaneously jumped in as the fourth runner in Ulm.

Also on board was Johanna Billmeir, who had previously been banned from training for two weeks due to illness.

Lina Bachmann and Emma Pfluger completed the U18 relay.

"Of course it was a pity that Lana couldn't walk, but we still wanted to do our best," the quartet agreed.

“It was just an overwhelming atmosphere.

The first time Callroom was completely new to all of us and really intimidating at first, but it ended up not being as bad as we thought.

Even if we couldn't repeat our best performance with our time of 50.94 seconds, it was a great experience,” reports Pfluger about her first DM. The LAG came 22nd walk.

Jana Schüler makes it exciting

Dorfenerin Jana Schüler had already celebrated her DM debut in 2021.

In the U18 age group, she secured seventh place.

But now she was allowed to compete against Germany's best U20 high jumpers.

She had long since cracked the magical 1.70 meter mark this season with her jump of 1.74 meters - and she wanted to go for this personal best in Ulm as well.

And things looked good at first: She started her competition with two valid attempts over 1.60 and 1.65 meters without any mistakes.

At 1.69 meters it got exciting - in the third and last attempt she qualified for the next jump height.

However, she was no longer able to do that at 1.73 meters.

In the end, the high jump ace of the LAG Mittlere Isar had to settle for tenth place.
