Freising

– Four weeks before the start of the season, the Bayernliga basketball players from TSV Jahn Freising underwent their first endurance test at their traditional folk festival tournament.

They lost 47:65 to TG Landshut from the Bayernliga Southeast and their league competitor DJK Landsberg from the Südwest squadron 46:62.

TSV Jahn Freising: Newcomer Adis Salihovic shows his qualities

However, the two clear defeats on Saturday are no reason for the new Jahn coach Oliver Stojanovski to look to the future with a queasy feeling.

"I'm not worried.

We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but you could see in many scenes that the team has enough potential to hold on to the Bayernliga."

In terms of personnel, the folk festival tournament was not a good omen for the Freisinger Korbjäger: Five potential regular players were not available due to vacation - including returnees Vangelis Pathekas and the two newcomers Kevin Nickel and Leon Ballat.

Another new Jahn player was there in Adis Salihovic - and Coach Stojanovski was very impressed by him: "He can be a real reinforcement for us, even if he still lacks the bond with the team, of course." With his powerful nature Salihovic presented himself to the Jahn fans as combative and strong-willed.

So he could sweep away the young players in the Jahn team.

Because a number of regulars were not at the start, Stojanovski took the opportunity to test some 15-year-olds from the U16 Bayernliga team in the adult division.

"Of course they still lack the necessary physique to hold their own against the big ones," emphasizes Stojanovski.

"But they were convincing in terms of play." He gave extra praise to Ben Toure and Tarik Ouro-Djobo.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

TSV Jahn Freising: There is still room for improvement, especially in defence

The coach tried a lot in the two friendlies.

If he sent the top performers from last season onto the field, then TSV Jahn kept up very well.

For example in the third quarter of the game against Landshut, in which many experienced players played through.

Michael Babl, Lukas Schwankner and Sorin Sabau scored again and again and quickly made up for a bigger deficit.

Adis Salihovic even equalized to 42:42.

However, since coach Stojanovski made a number of changes in the fourth quarter, Freising ultimately had to give in.

The second game against Landsberg was similar.

Conclusion: If the Jahn basketball players managed to act compactly and aggressively on defense, they could put the opponents under pressure.

The coach saw some good approaches on offense, such as fast combination play and successfully completed fast breaks.

Nevertheless, the construction sites could not be overlooked: The coordination on defense was often not right, the opponents were able to dribble through the zone unhindered and came up with easy layups.

The rebounds were also a big drawback.

Too often the opponent got second or third shot chances.

And then there's the hit rate.

"Many players don't have the throwing rhythm at all," says Stojanovski.

But he is in good spirits that it will look much better in the upcoming training games.
