The musician Rolf Zuckowski ("In the Christmas bakery") has in his own words no experience in the preparation of Christmas cookies. "I've never baked cookies myself, even though one of my most famous songs is about it," said the 72-year-old of "Zeit".
The reason for his lack of baking experience is profane: "Our kitchen is so narrow that you can't have more than three people in it," he said. "I like to cut out cookies. But I've never stirred a dough together. And children are better at decorating anyway."
World premiere in the kitchen
Zuckowski is one of the most famous interpreters of Christmas carols. "In the Christmas Bakery" was released in 1987 and is one of his greatest successes. The song was covered several times, among others by Wolfgang Petry, Helene Fischer and the comedian Otto Waalkes.
"The song was created during the best Christmas baking season, on an Advent evening," said Zuckowski. He was at a concert in Bochum. "Then I called my family from the parking lot with a car phone. I heard the clinking of baking. On the way home, I started to sort out the song." When he got home, the song was finished. "I premiered that in the kitchen."
