(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 18 - "I am no longer a candidate for the presidency of the new government". This was announced by Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri, quoted by local media, who quit power on October 29 following protests over two months. Hariri was the only candidate to hold the position of new prime minister, supported by the entire Lebanese political apparatus. Tomorrow the start of the long-awaited parliamentary consultations is expected to entrust the task to the prime minister. Hariri urged all chambers not to postpone further the start of consultations, whose start was postponed as early as 9 and 16 December last.
