"We know that politics also involves clashes" but, as Aldo Moro said, today we also need "the common acceptance of essential reasons of freedom, respect and dialogue". President Sergio Mattarella said this when he met the representatives of the institutions, political forces and civil society.

"A society crossed by deep lacerations runs a grave danger", stressed Mattarella explaining that those who "have an institutional role must feel the responsibility to do it in the name and on behalf of all citizens".

"Respect is the most effective antidote to intolerance, a harbinger of negative consequences", added the President of the Republic.

"The prolonged weakness of the economy - he said - has heavily affected the productive apparatus of our country, with heavy employment consequences and serious phenomena of social disintegration. Here is the mission to fight for and the enemy to be defeated together: the work that is lacking, that work indicated as the foundation of our Republic " .

According to the head of state, " paid and protected work is needed , also in terms of security, as a remedy for social fragmentation and as a central element of economic recovery".

"The common good is good for everyone, without exception. And whoever administers the public, whoever is called to govern certainly expresses the guidelines of the majority but with the duty to respect and guarantee the freedom and rights of others, of minorities. This is the essence of democracy, which requires mutual respect ".

"The autonomy of the Regions - said Mattarella - represents a constitutional value and makes a major contribution that qualifies national unity".

"The presence of women at the top of the institutions and in the roles of responsibility of companies and civil society is an extraordinary factor of growth and balance. We are making progress even if we are not yet close to the goal".

Mattarella has also touched on the theme of the environment . "Today the climate changes make our territories appear fragile and exposed, the populations are unsafe". This is an "obvious and disruptive" change.
