Dwyane Wade on his transgender child: "Much more strength and courage than me"

Dwyane Wade's child is transgender. Now the ex-NBA star has spoken about what he wants to be a father, how he reacts to hate comments and how he supports every member of his family.

For ex-NBA star Dwyane Wade it is now clear that each of his children should be exactly the person in the world who wants to be. But the question of what kind of father he wanted to be for her, he obviously had to ask himself above all for one of them: his twelve-year-old child Zion Malachi Airamis was born as a boy, but feels female. Wade has spoken about it in the podcast "All the Smoke".

When his son was little, he looked in the mirror at some point and asked himself: "What if your son comes home and tells you that he is gay? Then what do you do? How will you be? How will you behave? " But it was not about his son, because he knew who he was. It was about Wade himself. "My 12-year-old child has much more strength and courage than I do."

The answer was clear to him: "Nothing changes my love. Nothing changes my responsibility. All I had to do was get smarter and find out more," he said. "I saw my son become who she is today from day one." He was a proud father and each of his children inspired him.

Dwayne Wade is a former Miami Heat basketball player. He ended his career in April. Wade has four children and is married to actress Gabrielle Union. Two of his children are from a previous marriage.

Just a month ago, the family was exposed to hate comments over a Thanksgiving photo. These were directed primarily against Zion. The picture on Union's Instagram account shows the child with varnished acrylic nails and a crop top.

Grateful ❤❤❤ Happy Thanksgiving good people. To all the friends and family that have my back and all the friends and family I've never met who show love and support when everyone is looking and when no one is looking ... All praise, gratitude and thankfulness

Wade replied to critics on Twitter with clear words: "The thing is - I was chosen to run my family, not her," he wrote. "So we will continue to support each other with pride, love and a smile."

I've seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in — so i get it. But here's the thing — I've been chosen to lead my family not y'all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!

He also tweeted: "As a parent, my only goal is to make my children feel that I am aware of, love and support them."

In the podcast, he spoke again of the situation a few weeks ago and once again defended the LGBTQ community: "It is not them who decide how they are born." They are also not the ones who are "different". "You are the new 'normal'," he said. Everyone will get used to it. "The people who don't change their minds and don't understand that are the ones who are different."
