Caffeine can be considered an anti-obesity agent. (HANDLE)

Caffeine can be considered an anti-obesity agent. To say it is a study, conducted on mice, which has noticed how the substance contained in tea and coffee actually reduces lipid conservation, the production of triglycerides and limits weight gain. The research is signed by the University of Illinois and has been published in the Journal of Functional Foods. To arrive at this conclusion, the mice were followed on a diet with 40% fat, 45% carbohydrates and 15% protein. They also ingested caffeine in an amount equivalent to that of a human being who takes it in 4 cups a day. At the end of the four-week period, the percentage of lean mass in the various groups of rats (divided into those who drank mate tea with caffeine and those who took the same product but decaffeinated) varied significantly. The rats that ingested caffeine accumulated less body fat than the other group: they gained 16% less weight and accumulated 22% less body fat than the rats that consumed the decaffeinated product. Scholars noted that caffeine reduced lipid buildup in fat cells by between 20% and 41%.
In a study conducted on cell cultures, however, the expression of Fasn, the fatty acid synthesis gene (a compound involved in the synthesis of glucose fatty acids) decreased between 31% and 39%, while the expression of Lpl, the lipoprotein lipase gene (which codes for an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides) decreased between 51% and 69%.
