Christmas weather: storm is approaching

2019-12-23T13:11:09.724Z

In many places, white Christmas will probably only remain a dream: For the holidays, the German Weather Service predicts clouds and wind - but the snowfall line should drop below a thousand meters at times.

"Cedric" crosses Germany from east to west: the storm low should cause unstable weather in most parts of the country on December 24th. Snow is left to the higher altitudes, as the German Weather Service (DWD) predicted. The wind is particularly noticeable in southern Germany, and gusts of wind and heavy gusts of wind must be expected in the mountains.

The south is forecast to face a wet and uncomfortable Christmas Eve at seven to eleven degrees Celsius. Snowflakes only exist here above 1000 to 1200 meters - but then in part abundantly, said the DWD. It is already getting cooler in the north, so that the meteorologists for the Harz, Thuringian Forest and the Ore Mountains are forecasting snowfall from 500 to 600 meters in the direction of the first Christmas holiday.

On Wednesday, the snow line in the south is also expected to drop to 600 to 800 meters. So "one or the other region can still be happy about a small amount of fresh snow and enjoy at least part of Christmas 'white'", said meteorologist Lars Kirchhübel. But already on the second holiday it became milder that snow was no longer to be expected below 1000 meters.
