TV audiences: the New Years Eve of France 2 sealed by the departure of Patrick Sébastien

Without its former star host, King of December 31, the second channel attracted one million fewer viewers on Tuesday evening than in 2018.

Was it a good idea to fire Patrick Sébastien? After 14 years at the helm of New Years Eve on France 2, and almost as many victories by knockout over the competition, the host had to give up his place. The public channel has decided to entrust its evening of December 31 to a new team. From the audience point of view, this choice is mixed for France 2.

On average, 2.85 million viewers changed the year with Faustine Bollaert, Sophie Davant and Daphné Bürki, according to Médiamétrie. "La chanson française fête le 31" gathered 21.5% of the audience aged four and over until 12:25. A more than honorable score for the trio of animators.

But the audience is down sharply compared to last year. For New Years Eve 2018, 3.8 million viewers were in front of the “Biggest cabaret in the world” (27.1%). Patrick Sébastien's departure therefore cost France 1 million followers.

Huge disappointment for M 6

France 2 was therefore beaten by TF 1, leading the audiences for the last evening of the year. "Le Grand bêtisier du 31" gathered 3.18 million people, or 23.1% of PDA. However, the show lost around 400,000 followers in one year. Disappointed fans of Patrick Sébastien's departure did not skip Christophe Beaugrand and Karine Ferri, who had also chosen to invite their former competitor.

France 3 resists very well with a replay of its successful series "Captain Marleau". This episode in which Corinne Masiero replies to Géraldine Pailhas and Charles Berling attracted 2.67 million fans of this French series (15.7% of the public).

Arte is also doing well with "The Professionals". This Richard Brooks western with Burt Lancaster and Lee Marvin drew 845,000 moviegoers (5.9% market share). A good score which allows the Franco-German channel to get ahead of M 6, which took the water on Tuesday evening. Only 625,000 people watched Julia Vignali's “The artists go back in time”. Only 4.4% market share. A very, very bad score, worthy of a small DTT channel. The Six ends 2019 very badly.
