Epiphany, in Florence the Cavalcade of the Magi

(ANSA) - FLORENCE, JANUARY 2 - Florence traditionally recalls the Cavalcade of the Magi for the Epiphany, a solemn procession with dozens of figures. The event, at its 24th edition of the modern era, is organized by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore and refers to an ancient Florentine tradition of the fifteenth century, when a company of lay people named after the Holy ReMagi, which included the major components of the Medici family, organized a magnificent procession, the 'Festa de' Magi '.
Since 1997, for the 700 years since the foundation of the Cathedral, the Opera del Duomo has wanted to take it up again. A solemn procession depicting the Magi on horseback, in sumptuous silk dresses inspired by those of Benozzo Gozzoli's fresco, will cross the center, starting from Piazza Pitti to arrive in Piazza Duomo where there will be the offer of gifts to the Child Jesus .
