The argument was said to have been the children's area in a hotel, and Rod Stewart, 74, and his son Sean, 39, entered this area at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach to attend a New Year's event, but apparently had no invitations. An argument broke out when security personnel blocked their access.
Security guard Jessie Dixon later told local police that the Stewarts were making a scene when he turned them away because of the lack of a guest list space at the check-in table.
Because Stewart junior made no signs of making room for arriving guests and had become loud, he put his hand on his chest, Dixon said. Thereupon Sean Stewart pushed him, while his father punched him in the ribs with a clenched fist. The statement was confirmed by two hotel employees who were not involved in the incident. Images from security cameras are also supposed to show that the aggression came from father and son Stewart.
The case will be heard in court on February 5. Rod and Sean Stewart have yet to comment on the allegations.
