An El Al flight that took off from New York to Tel Aviv last night had to land in Halifax Canada, due to the smell of smoke in the air conditioning system. There were about 200 passengers on the Boeing 777.
El Al said that "all passengers are handled by company representatives. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers." A team of technicians on their way to Halifax. Passengers are housed in city hotels and take-off is scheduled for Saturday night.

The plane landed in Halifax, the largest city in the Nova Scotia Peninsula, in western Canada. The weather in the place was very low and yesterday was 15 degrees. Passengers on the plane were transported to the Lord Nelson Hotel in the city. This is a fairly remote area in Canada and the airport where the El Al aircraft landed was considered isolated and small. There is no Jewish community in the area that can host the passengers to sit, but in a fancy overseas group and in Chabad with El Al, at this time, they provide kosher food for the Jewish passengers who were on the plane.
There are various reports that a group of Jewish pilots intends to help bring kosher food to those passengers, but it is unclear whether the initiative will be implemented. Another possibility is that Jews will be brought kosher food from the plane, so that they can pass the Sabbath in Halifax without any problems in this respect.
