France 2: "Boyard Land" should spend the winter

2020-01-10T15:38:25.010Z

Without having beaten audience records, the program derived from "Fort Boyard", the fourth and last number of which is broadcast this Saturday at 9 p.m.

Last round of rides before annual closure! France 2 broadcasts this Saturday January 11 at 9:05 pm, the fourth and final issue of "Boyard Land", as well as a blooper of all the falls, waterfalls and big scares as a bonus. Before season 2, next winter? Almost all the lights are green for this derivative of "Fort Boyard", shot in a world of reconstructed funfair.

The first three shows, presented by Olivier Minne and Willy Rovelli, won an average of 2.6 million viewers, or 11.7% audience share among the general public. This is six points less than the summer, but as much as the previous attempts to broadcast winter in 2012, and the average entertainment of the chain since the start of the school year.

"We responded to a real expectation"

Except that the trend is slightly down from show to show, with 500,000 viewers lost in three weeks. "If we were between 6% and 8% audience share (Editor's note: like" The Course of Champions ", presented by Teddy Riner in October) , we would ask ourselves questions, but this is clearly not the case, specifies Alexandra Redde-Amiel, director of entertainment for France 2. With this program, we responded to a real expectation and created the event. "

This French production was able to count on a good effect of curiosity for the launch, Saturday December 21. Surprise! That evening, "Boyard Land" even hit the post TF 1 on its hunting ground: women responsible for purchases under 50, the preferred target of advertisers (19.6% against 19.5%).

Better still, this first issue benefited from word-of-mouth word outside the norm for France 2: 530,000 people watched it in replay. This is twice as much as for "My letter", an ersatz of "Stars at home" launched in November with Sophie Davant at the presentation.

An average age of 42

The management of the chain is also delighted with the good scores on children: 36% of 4-14 year olds watched this program, while the average for Saturday evening is usually 11% on this audience. As a result, "Boyard Land" has an average age of 42, compared to 56 for other entertainment.

To confirm these good figures, France 2 also carried out a qualitative study, via a panel of viewers, who appreciate "a universe and very funny characters". “We are delighted that Boyard Land was not perceived as a sub- Fort Boyard,” adds producer Alexia Laroche-Joubert. The latter already has solutions in mind to improve its copy.

The first is mathematical: extending the duration of the program in order to gain market share. “We are thinking in particular of adding sleeves,” continues the patron of Adventure Line Productions. This will better structure the program. But it must not be superficial. The second track is more artistic: put new events on the air so that the programs are less similar. “We had planned four more big games, but they weren't ready at the time of shooting. "
